  • Last year's annual Fall Open House was scheduled for Thursday, September 27, 2012. Watch for a similar date for Fall 2013.
  • The 2013 Fall National College Fair bus trip to Minneapolis will be on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 from 7:00AM to 4:00PM. Students have to listen for announcements right after school starts in September in order to sign up. They need a permission slip with a parent signature and a check to cover the bus and then their name will be entered on the bus list. This is done on a "first-come, first-served" basis. The buses always fill.
  • Common Application Seminar/Help Session took place Tuesday, October 2, 2012 in the Career Center. A college rep was available to answer questions. We hope to repeat this session again this year.
  • Fall Conferences are held in late October. Conference dates for Fall 2013 are October 17, 21, 23 and 28.
  • Scholarship Night for the class of 2014 will be held in the auditorium at East on October 22. All seniors and their parents were invited to attend. Representatives from area scholarships as well as our counselors will be on hand to present information.
  • Minnesota College Application Week was November 12th-16th in 2012. This is a week when many Minnesota colleges waive their application fee. There is a day during that week set aside when East students have the opportunity to apply to colleges with the help of our counselors, Career Center Coodinators plus the expertise of college representatives ... all for free! This takes place in the Media Center computer lab or anytime during the week in the Career Center. Watch for announcements about the 2013 free application week.
  • Our Giving Tree Project begins each November in the Career Center. Each year our East students purchase toys, books and clothing for disadvantaged children in Duluth. This past year our East community gave a total of 380 gifts to needy children! Students signed out a "snowman tag" from the tree and then shopped for the suggested gift. Thank you East!
  • Interviews for local scholarships take place during the first two weeks of December here at East. Qualifying students who are in the top 1/3 of the senior class are eligible to apply and interview.
  • Financial Aid Night for the Class of 2014 is a city-wide joint presentation. It takes place at the College of St. Scholastica's Mitchell Auditorium on January 8th, 2014 at 7:00 PM. This very helpful, hands-on presentation works best if you look at your FAFSA paperwork ahead of time and bring it along for specific assistance. College representatives are available to answer your questions about financial aid (including 2-year and 4-year public and private).
  • A FAFSA Question/Answer Session is usually held during zero hour at the end of January in the Career Center. Sandy Olin, Financial Aid Director at Lake Superior College and FAFSA guru has all the answers! This session is very helpful for parents who have questions. We hope to schedule a similar session next January.
  • Spring Conferences for 2014 will be Thursday, March 13 and Monday, March 17. Parents of juniors: Our counselors offer a seminar for junior parents each Spring entitled "Life After High School Issues and College Planning Now". They will also host an Open Forum for questions. Watch for more information in the future.
  • ACT Test Preparation Seminar, "Zapping the ACT" will be offered at Odean East Middle School in March. This 5-hour seminar provides professional coaching for the ACT test and has been very helpful for many East students each year. You must register through Community Education.
  • The Class of 2013 had three students qualifying as National Merit Scholars.
  • East's ACT and SAT scores are well above state and national averages.
